Pure Aero Rafa Bag - Rework
An international industry collaboration carried out during an exchange semester at Strate École de Design in Lyon, redesigning the Rafael Nadal Pure Aero bag for Babolat.
The mandate ran in two phases. Each student in the cohort first developed an individual concept on their own. Most concepts in the cohort were built around a creative or stylistic direction; mine took a different approach, built around optimization. Manufacturing a product tailored to a specific business carries real costs whenever changes are made after the fact, so the starting questions were about volume and necessity: what volume the existing boxes offered, what volume each material actually needed, and what was necessary versus what was simply a bonus.
That concept was one of three selected, and from there it became a team project, with four students taking it into prototyping together. Taking it from individual proposal to prototype meant fabric prototyping and building a physical soft-goods prototype, with the final concepts presented to Babolat at the company's headquarters in Lyon.
Some details (e.g. visuals and final prototype) of the work remain undisclosed, in keeping with the non-disclosure agreement and respect for the commercial brand.
