Design Context
We were tasked with developing a scenography that would hypothetically take place in Place de la République during the summer. This design was created in response to the challenge of high temperatures in this central square, which serves as a vital hub for shoppers and tourists but lacks adequate spaces for rest and relaxation.
Design Solution
The design incorporates shaded areas that allow people to escape the heat while enhancing the existing environment. By strategically utilizing the central fountain as a focal point within the seating area, the space transforms into an inviting spot for both relaxation and social interaction. The design maintains access to the fountain, allowing visitors to enjoy its refreshing water located beneath the platform while sitting under the sunshades.
Large glass panels are thoughtfully positioned to face significant historical landmarks, providing representations and informative displays that guide visitors on their exploration. This integration of aesthetics and functionality creates a unique experience, making the area an attractive landmark for tourists without obstructing the openness of the square.
Materials and Methods
The materials chosen for this project were selected for their durability and visual appeal, ensuring the installation withstands the elements while providing a welcoming environment. The use of glass panels offers transparency and lightness while reflecting the surrounding architecture, further enhancing the beauty of the square.
Outcomes
The combination of shade, seating, and informative displays successfully created a multifunctional space that encourages visitors to linger and enjoy their surroundings. This design addresses the immediate need for comfort in a busy urban area while promoting cultural engagement by guiding tourists to historical sites.
Conclusion
This scenography exemplifies how thoughtful design can enhance public spaces, providing comfort while simultaneously enriching the cultural landscape. It fosters community interaction and supports local tourism, making Place de la République a desirable destination.
